Agent permissions: what the agent may do without asking
Choose, action by action, whether the agent asks before a change, makes it without asking, or never makes it — in chat and in your routines — and how to undo Always allow.
TL;DR: Settings › Agent permissions sets each thing the agent can do to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked, for the agent in the app and in your routines. In chat, every change asks first until you allow it. On Pro, a routine makes any change you have not set yourself, though the page shows Needs approval; choose Needs approval to make it propose. Lookups run without asking unless you change that.
Agent permissions decide, for each thing the agent can do, whether it asks you first. Open them at Settings › Agent permissions.
The three settings
- Always allow — the agent does it without asking.
- Needs approval — the agent shows an approval card and waits for you. See Is the agent safe?
- Blocked — the agent cannot do it in the app or in your routines. In chat it says the action is off in your settings, with an Open Agent permissions link back to this page.
Out of the box, in chat, every change needs approval and every lookup runs without asking. Routines start from your plan instead.
What's on the page
Actions sit in three groups, each with a count:
- Interactive tools — showing a metrics dashboard in chat and saving a panel to Today. Always allowed unless you change it.
- Read-only tools — everything that only looks: metrics, campaigns, goals, products, the help centre, your Action log. Always allowed unless you change it.
- Write/delete tools — everything that changes something: campaigns, bids, placements, targets and product ads, archiving, goals, keywords for the ad engine, product costs, review requests, keeping or handing back exceptions, skills, routines, guardrails, and switching seller workspace. These need approval unless you change them.
Each group's menu sets every action in it at once, and reads Custom when they differ. Open a group to set actions one by one: each row has three buttons — a tick for Always allow, a hand for Needs approval, and a crossed-out circle for Blocked.
Always allow and Always block on a card
Pressing Always allow or Always block on an approval card saves that action here, exactly as if you had set it on this page. It covers every future use of the action — every bid change, not only the one on the card — in chat and in your routines.
To undo it, open Write/delete tools, find the action and press the hand button for Needs approval. Only you can change these settings; the agent has no way to change them for you.
Routines follow the same settings
A routine runs with nobody there to press a card, so it follows these settings:
- Always allow — the routine makes the change, and its report says what it did.
- Needs approval — the routine leaves the change out and proposes it in its report. Reply to carry it out.
- Blocked — the routine neither makes nor proposes it.
For a change you have never set, your plan decides what a routine does. On Pro, the plan with the ad engine, routines make it. On the Agent plan, they propose it. Chat still asks either way, and the page shows Needs approval for it. Choose a setting yourself — even Needs approval — and it replaces the plan's choice for that action.
Creating a routine does not approve its changes in advance; these settings decide. See Agent routines.
Yours, not your company's
Your settings are yours. They apply on every seller workspace you use, and each teammate has their own. A routine follows the settings of the person who owns it.
Only the agent in the Autron app and your routines read these settings. When you connect Claude or ChatGPT, that app decides whether to ask you before a change. Email, Slack and WhatsApp don't read them either: they handle changes their own way, so an action you have blocked here can still be offered there for your approval. Email your agent explains approving by reply.
Examples
Let the agent act without asking. Open the Write/delete tools menu and choose Always allow. Or allow only the actions you trust — say Update Amazon Ads Target Bids and Add Amazon Ads Targets — and leave the rest on Needs approval. Your routines then make those changes too.
Have routines suggest, never act. Choose Needs approval from the Write/delete tools menu. Chat keeps asking, and every routine proposes its changes in its report instead of making them.
Stop the agent changing bids. Set Update Amazon Ads Target Bids to Blocked, and Update Campaign Placement Bid Adjustments too if placements count. The agent then won't change bids in chat, and your routines neither make nor propose bid changes.
This only covers the agent. The ad engine bids on its own campaigns toward your goal; to stop that, switch the product off on Goals or press Stop ad engine. See Stop the engine or disconnect Autron.
A look-only agent in the app. Set the whole Write/delete tools group to Blocked. In the app and in your routines, the agent can still look everything up, but cannot change anything — including switching seller workspace for you.
